Condition

This is an exceptional and extremely rare vintage geometric avant-garde Audemars Piguet luxury dress piece. Made between 1978 and 1979, this solid 18ct gold hexagonal shaped watch is paired with its original and signed, crocodile leather strap with its solid 18ct gold signed buckle, which still has its original tag attached. The watch is presented in its original Audemars Piguet leather case and outer box, and with its original AP papers inside its AP leather wallet, which make this special piece a wonderfully preserved and highly collectible set.

This watch is in exceptional condition for its age and with its original ultra-thin manual wind movement this piece is working very well and keeping excellent time.  The Calibre 2052 is a historically important, ultra-thin mechanical movement. Because it is tiny and oval-shaped, Audemars Piguet custom-selected it specifically to power their most high-end dress pieces during the 1970s. Whilst high-end mechanical watches of this era typically used 17 or 18 jewels, this tiny movement was upgraded to 22 jewels. This count reflects AP’s tier-one status, ensuring even the smallest gear pivots are shielded by synthetic rubies, reflecting AP’s extraordinary attention to precision, reduced friction and long-term durability.

Rarely does a piece so distinctive appear in such complete and original condition. With no comparable examples currently offered for sale, this is an opportunity to acquire a genuinely elusive Audemars Piguet: a beautifully preserved statement of 1970s design, craftsmanship and individuality.
