Condition

This absolutely stunning vintage Longines-Wittnauer rectangular Tank-style wristwatch dates to the 1940s and features a 10K gold-filled case signed Longines-Wittnauer Watch Co., Inc., New York / Geneva / Montreal, reflecting its connection to the North American Longines-Wittnauer market. Showcasing a beautiful satin dial with applied gold-tone Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds sub-dial perfectly capturing the elegant Art Deco-inspired aesthetic of the period. 

Presented in excellent vintage condition, this timepiece is outstanding both mechanically and cosmetically. The movement is running very well, keeping excellent time within appropriate vintage specifications. A superb example of a highly desirable and distinctive vintage Longines-Wittnauer.

History

From the early 20th century through the 1960s, Wittnauer acted as the exclusive distributor for Longines in North America. To comply with complex US tariff regulations and high import duties on fully assembled luxury watches, Longines exported raw, un-cased watch movements directly from Switzerland. Once the movements arrived in New York, Wittnauer housed them in locally manufactured, US-sourced cases. The stamp "Longines-Wittnauer Co. Inc. New York/Geneva/Montreal" is the official hallmark certifying this exact import process.

Dial - The dial is truly stunning and has not lost its shine. It remains in remarkable condition for a watch of this age, showing only light, beautifully charming signs of age upon closer inspection.

Case - The 10K gold-filled case shows only light common signs of wear.

Crown - The crown works perfectly in all its functions and is in excellent vintage condition. 

Movement - The watch encases its original Longines Manual wind 22L movement which is working excellently. 

Case back - The stamped 10K gold-filled case back is in excellent condition for its age, displaying its original markings on the inner and outer perfectly, the case back surface shows light common signs of wear.

Strap - This timepiece comes on a new leather strap, which suits the watch perfectly.

Crystal - The crystal is in excellent vintage condition, showing some common scratches, which are not noticeable without a loupe.
