This super-fabulous Omega De Ville was made in 1970, when Omega introduced a new range of watches inspired by the work of Andrew Grima, following the success of their earlier collaboration. Grima had won the prestigious De Beers Diamonds International Award (the Oscars of jewellery design) a record 11 times. In 1969, Andrew Grima was commissioned by Omega to create one of the most outrageous and daring watch collections ever made. Today, Andrew Grima is recognised as one of the great modernist jewellery designers of the 20th century. His work can be seen in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
Condition
This particular De Ville is a wonderful expression of that aesthetic. The horizontally elongated blue-grey dial has a beautiful brushed finish, complemented by fine, white-painted quarter-hour markers and elegant white hands. The spectacular emerald-cut-shaped, faceted crystal gives the watch an especially distinctive and jewel-like presence.
Both the 38 × 21mm case and the beautifully sculptural, distinctive integrated chainmail-style bracelet are made from solid 925 sterling silver and are quite substantial in size and weight. The watch is in brilliant condition throughout, with the case, dial and bracelet all presenting exceptionally well, which is very rare for a watch of this age! This spectacular piece is also working perfectly and keeping excellent time.
