This is a beautiful and exceptionally rare vintage Omega De Ville “Tank” dress watch from 1973, featuring a distinctive design attributed to the renowned British jeweller Andrew Grima.
Grima, often regarded as one of the most influential jewellery designers of the 20th century, was known for his bold, architectural style and unconventional use of form and light. Having designed pieces for high-profile clients including royalty, his collaboration with Omega in the early 1970s introduced a series of avant-garde watches that blurred the line between jewellery and horology. These designs, sometimes referred to as part of the “Emerald” line, are characterised by their striking geometry and dramatic, faceted crystals, produced only for a short period and now highly sought-after by collectors.
This particular example perfectly captures that design ethos. The dial is beautifully framed by a multi-faceted, emerald-cut style crystal, which plays with light in a way rarely seen on traditional dress watches, giving the piece a unique presence on the wrist. The watch remains extremely well preserved and in exceptional condition, showing only light wear. Mechanically, the watch is in full working order and running very nicely. It is keeping excellent time within vintage specifications, making it not only a collectible piece but also a reliable wearer. This is a rare opportunity to own a distinctive and historically significant Omega!
Dial - The dial is in superb, original condition with just the odd speckle which you need a Loupe to see.
Case - This piece features a gold plated stainless steel case which is in superb condition for its age, only showing minimal signs of wear.
Crown - The crown is original, Omega signed and is working perfectly.
Movement - This piece encases its original manual winding 625 Omega movement. It is running very nicely and is keeping great time.
Case back - The original case back is in lovely original condition. It shows mild signs of wear and tool marks as you would expect of a watch of this age.
Strap - This example has been put on a new, luxurious, leather strap which is in mint condition and suits the watch perfectly.
Crystal - The faceted mineral crystal is in superb condition, with only a couple of minor chips on edges visible only under close inspection with a loupe. Otherwise, it looks mint.
For a watch of this age, this piece is in spectacular order and is ready to wear!
