History 

The Rolex Datejust 1601 is an iconic reference in Rolex’s long-running Datejust line, produced from 1959 through to the late 1970s. It epitomises mid-20th-century Rolex design and helped cement the Datejust as a timeless classic.

Condition

This absolutely stunning vintage Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 dates from the early 1970s and features a rare champagne sunburst “Ghost Dial.” Rather than the classic black print, its dial text is rendered in white and subtly fades from view as the watch is turned in the light. The distinctive dial is complemented by the timeless two-tone case with a fluted solid 18ct gold bezel and its matching original two-tone steel and gold Rolex Jubilee bracelet, completing this fully original watch beautifully.

The watch is running perfectly and keeping excellent time within vintage specifications. While it is not supplied with its original box or papers, its authenticity has been verified and an authenticity guarantee card will be provided.

Dial - Excellent condition, showing only light age visible under magnification.

Case - This piece features a stainless steel case which is in excellent condition and shows light common signs of use. The brushwork on the front of the case remains in excellent original condition. The solid 18ct gold bezel is also in excellent condition, showing light wear under magnification.

Crown - The crown is its original Rolex screw down and is in excellent condition and works perfectly in all of its functions. 

Movement - This model houses its original Rolex Calibre 1570 automatic movement which is flawless in every way. It is keeping fantastic time for a watch of this age. 

Case back - The case back is original with all of its Rolex markings on the inner. It shows some signs of wear from use over its decades of life. 

Strap - The original Rolex two-tone Jubilee bracelet in stainless steel with 18ct gold-capped centre links remains in excellent condition showing flex and only light surface wear.

Crystal - The watch features an acrylic Cyclops crystal which was standard for Rolexes of this era. The crystal is in excellent condition showing light signs of wear and age under magnification.
