History 

The Rolex Datejust 1601 is an iconic reference in Rolex’s long-running Datejust line, produced from the early 1960s through the late 1970s. It epitomises mid-20th-century Rolex design and helped cement the Datejust as a timeless classic.

Condition

This is an absolutely stunning vintage Rolex Datejust reference number 1601 from 1968 which features a timeless two-tone case including a very special fluted bezel. The watch is working perfectly within specification. This piece has all of its original Rolex parts including the dial, bezel, movement, and crown. Although this piece doesn’t have its original box and papers, it has had its authenticity verified and an authenticity guarantee card will be provided.

Dial - A spectacular linen dial which is in superb condition, it really pops when it catches the light. There is some slight wear to the outer edges of the dial which are only visible under magnification. The gold tone baton markers work really well against the silver linen effect dial.

Case - This piece features a stainless steel case which is in fantastic condition and shows minor signs of use. The brushwork on the front of the case remains in excellent condition. The solid gold bezel is also in excellent condition.

Crown - The crown is its original Rolex screw down and is in excellent condition and works perfectly in all of its functions. 

Movement - This model houses its original Rolex Calibre 1570 automatic movement which is flawless in every way. It is keeping fantastic time for a watch of this age. 

Case back - The case back is original with all of its Rolex markings on the inner. It shows some signs of wear from use over its decades of life. 

Strap - We have fitted a new leather strap.

Crystal - The watch features an acrylic crystal with a cyclops lense which was standard for Rolexes of this era. The crystal is in fantastic condition showing minor signs of wear.
