Condition

We are pleased to offer this highly collectible 1951 Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 6084, known among collectors as the “Semi-Bubble back.” Its attractive white dial has the sought-after 3–6–9–12 “Explorer-style” layout, combining applied gilt arrowhead markers and Arabic numerals with elegant gilt hands. The dial displays attractive age-related subtle hand-shadowing that contributes to its individual and beautiful vintage character.

The watch is housed in a solid 10ct yellow-gold case with still retains its original Super Oyster Rolex crown! This is a rare, non-screw-down winding crown that Rolex produced for a brief window between 1950 and 1953, and many of which have since been replaced by service crowns. The gold case is marked .417 – 10K, with the characteristic semi-bubble screw-down case back. Inside the case back are reference and serial numbers, a period-correct Rolex ornate logo with R.W.C. Ltd stamp and British import-assay marks. The latter are stamped at the UK 9ct/.375 standard; this was the applicable British hallmark grade (as the nearest) for a case of this 10ct/.417 fineness.

These details reflect an appealing chapter of Rolex’s early Oyster Perpetual production for the British market. The watch is presented in stunning vintage and original condition, with honest signs of age consistent with its history. This watch is working perfectly in all its functions, keeping excellent time within vintage specifications. A perfect and rare opportunity to own something special!

Dial - While many vintage dials of this age display an even patina, this example has developed distinctive hand-shadowing in several positions. These subtle traces of its history add to the watch’s individual 1950s character and suggest a life well worn and enjoyed!

Case - The solid 10K gold case is in beautifully preserved, unpolished condition, showing signs of common light use only.

Crown - The crown is an uncommon, its original Rolex pull out crown, which remains in fantastic condition and works exceptionally beautifully in all of its functions. 

Movement - This model houses its original Rolex "Self winder chronometer" automatic movement, which is brilliant in every way, keeping fantastic time for a watch of this age. 

Case back - The solid 10K gold semi-bubble case back is original with all of its incredible Rolex markings on the inner. It shows only mild signs of wear from use over its decades of life. 

Strap - We have put this watch on a new high quality leather strap which looks and feels amazing on the wrist.

Crystal - The watch features an acrylic crystal which was standard for Rolexes of this era. The crystal is in fantastic condition, no visible signs of wear.
