A rare ladies’ Tudor Princess Date in solid 9ct yellow gold, with its original DS&S-stamped bracelet and RWC-signed Rolex Watch Company case back.

Tudor, founded by Rolex’s Hans Wilsdorf, was Rolex’s sister brand. To avoid historic UK import on completed gold watches, Swiss movements were sent to England and housed in locally made gold cases and bracelets by David Shackman & Sons. The RWC and DS&S marks confirm this distinctive British-market construction with British Assay marks dating to 1964-1965. The RWC hallmark inside the case back confirms the design was officially authorised, inspected and branded by the Rolex Watch Company.

Historical Importance

The Tudor shield-logo dial places it within the early shield-logo testing period when Tudor did a small-scale design testing on select international and regional references in the mid-to-late 1960s. The Tudor's new Shield logo was placed on select, high-end UK market solid gold models half a decade before the global rollout in 1969, making this piece one of the first designated pieces for this transition and the fascinating history of the Rolex/Tudor evolution.

Condition

The watch is presented in beautiful and charming vintage condition with the original solid-gold bracelet displaying a stunning light-catching pattern. It is supplied with its original Tudor presentation box, also superbly preserved. The rotor self-winding movement is running strongly and keeping time well within expectations for a vintage watch.

Dial - The dial is charming vintage condition, showing light signs of age.

Case - The solid 9ct gold case is in excellent condition for its age, showing light common wear.

Crown - The original, Tudor signed crown is in perfect working condition, showing little age. 

Movement - This piece is powered by a later Swiss Rotor Self-winding ETA 2671 movement, which is working perfectly and keeping excellent time within vintage specification. 

Case Back - The solid 9ct gold case is in excellent condition for its age, showing light common wear.

Crystal - The crystal is in good vintage condition and shows common light wear.

Strap - The original, solid 9ct gold bracelet is in well preserved condition, showing little wear and looks absolutely stunning as you twist the watch in the light.
